Numa Numa is, unfortunately, dead
I was browsing around YouTube today when I began to notice the enormous number of Numa Numa ripoffs. For those of you not in the know, the "original" Internet phenomenon was created by 20-year-old Gary Brolsma, who lip-synced and danced to the song on his crappy webcam. The real song, titled Dragostea din Tei by the group O-zone, is an awesome song, don't get me wrong, but all these, well, losers trying to gain some tiny shred of Internet popularity by ripping off an overused song are pissing me off. Why, there's Numa Numa Jesus, Numa Numa Lego, Numa Numa dumb-looking-kid,... and only about 3800 more.
I completely understand the marketing power of viral videos, but this is getting ridiculous. One girl got a video production job from Carson Daly for her version (which is just as crappy as all the others).
For Christ's sake, all these people are doing is lip-syncing and jumping around like fools! It was funny once, twice, maybe ten times. Not ten thousand.
Am I jealous of their mad video editing skills? No. I could care less.
I'm gonna go listen to my six remixes of Dragostea din Tei (all of which use the base audio of the original recording). That's the true way to respect an awesome techno song.
